Re: help for sound noise suppression ... (directSound)

Unfortunately it doesn't work properly. Silences are recorded mostly. is that because of environment noise ? how can i suppression it? Close doors and windows, turn off the TV, work late at night, use a reasonable quality sound card, use a long microphone lead so that you can move away from the com...

Unscrupulous selling of open source software

Audacity is not the only great open source software product to suffer from this malpractice. I recently came across 3DMagix and Blender where someone is selling "3D Animation Studio Pro Software" accompanied by some tutorials. The software is of course the well know Blender 3D design and a...

Re: Problem with stereo recording

I checked all the connections and cables and it the problem doesn't come from there. It would have to be something inside the turntable itself. That would seem likely, unless there are any Mac specific issues/features that could cause this. (I'm not a Mac user, so I don't know either way about that...

Re: Sound activated recording

There isn't any definite plan to implement this yet,... but it's perfectly feasible in my understanding. Cool :D I guess that a post-roll duration option would be easier to implement than the pre-roll option (Audacity already does a post-roll of around 300 milliseconds). A closely related feature i...

Re: Recording maxes at half volume. Why?

Just a thought - you've not shown any screenshots of the Windows Mixer. On XP it is usually possible to enable the Windows Mixer for any sound card (though the options in it may be limited). I can't remember off the top of my head how to enable the Windows Mixer, but it is somewhere in the Windows C...

Re: Recording maxes at half volume. Why?

He's right, it should record fine using MME or Direct Sound. Unfortunately there's not much that Audacity can do about it because (as Koz often says) Audacity is a slave to the sound system. Audacity does not deal directly with the sound card hardware, it just deals with the digital data that goes i...

Re: Records only left stereo track

I use the "GNOME Volume Control" and the "Pulse Audio Volume Control". The GNOME Volume Control controls the hardware drivers, and the Pulse Audio Volume Control controls the audio data streams. The GNOME Volume Control can be configured to be the mixer for any drivers that are i...
