Re: How I can reset AudCITY defaults?
The only graceful way to "reset" this Audacity is to de-install it completely in the control panel and reinstall it. No, that does not reset the preferences. The preferences are still retained. The best way is to use the "safe solution" that is described in the page that koz has...

Re: Leveller effect adds distortion
And Chris's compressor does not introduce enormous distortions All a matter of definition. The change in dynamics is itself a form of distortion. Put a signal into a black box with zero distortion, and other than the gain level the output is identical to the input. On the other hand, the shape of i...

Re: recording halfway through a track
This does not work for me (on 1.3.9 Windows XP-HE-SP3). In record mode it starts at the beginning of the selection ok - but then carries on recording past the slecetion end point. However in play mode it does end at the begiining of the selection correctly. That seems odd. I've just tested on XP (i...

Re: Underlying white noise
I'm guessing that you are using Windows? Go to the Audio I/O tab of Preferences and set both the playback and recording devices explicitly to the devices that you are using. Windows automatically sets input and output to the USB device when it is connected (which is pretty stupid if it's a microphon...

Re: AUP File format information
So why not export the individual tracks from Audacity as WAV files (or perhaps RAW headerless would be even better), then process those files with your application?

Re: "Judicious Sequencing"
How could I forget Acid :D "Acid" has been been at the forefront of sample sequencing for a long time (and a long time before it got the "Sony" prefix). It's good to see it priced at a reasonable consumer level, but a shame that it's Windows only. The Pro version is in a similar ...

Re: 1.2.6 noise removal superior to 1.3.6 ??
They used different techniques leading almost effortlessly to people who swear at one and by the other...and they're different. Quite often I will boost my "noise sample" by around 6 dB prior to capturing the noise profile. I find that with the type of material that I work with this gives...

Re: Recording Audio - Kiss the Mic Problem
If you are using a microphone plugged directly into the microphone socket on your computer, look in the sound card control panel/mixer (loudspeaker icon near the clock). There is probably a tick box to enable microphone boost (sometimes marked +20dB).
