Re: Recording Audio - Kiss the Mic Problem
With my Mic I can't hear via the speakers an echo of when I'm talking any ideas why? You mean you can hear an echo? You should not be monitoring through speakers while recording through a microphone as the microphone will pick up the sound from the speakers. Use headphones. If it is a slow echo (ar...

Re: Chris's Compressor - Three Queries
I've tested 1.2.2 quite a lot without it crashing, but using Audacity 1.3.9 and 1.3.10 (both have the new version of Nyquist) and I've only tested on relatively short tracks. Chris has been able to reproduce the issue when compressing a "long'ish" track, so will hopefully have a fix for th...

Re: Leveller effect adds distortion
Except the input gain control and the threshold control will interact, so you should only have one, and it's usually the threshold control. (I know: picky picky) To be even more pedantic - it's quite common for an input gain control to be a switch for selecting the nominal line level, but in any ca...

Re: Leveller effect adds distortion
As for "soft clipping", I don't think that's a good analogy, especially since Leveller is changing the values of samples well below the clipping level. It still sounds more like soft clipping than dynamic compression. :smiley-with-hands-over-ears: That's what Leveller appears to be doing ...

Open up
Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O
and set the playback device to "Microsoft Sound mapper".
Use the "Generate" function (main menu) to generate a tone, and try playing it - any sound?

Re: Setting preferences
Let's start from scratch with this.
Do you have the latest Audacity 1.3.9 version?
What operating system do you have?
What sort of sound card?
What are you wanting to record?
Anything else that may be relevant?
