Re: Pops/crackles when recording voice in 1.2.6 yet not in b
As all the current work on Audacity 1.3 is being restricted to bug fixing (the run up to the release of the next "stable" release) I would suggest the most recent one that is available. I'm currently using "Audacity 1.3.10 alpha October 1st" and it's been great. The most recent r...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Envelope_detector#Audio Apply this full wave rectifier plugin applied to the control track ... http://www.shellworld.net/~davidsky/rectimod.zip Then apply a low pass filter to the rectified track to smooth out the ripples. Those two processes will create the envelope tr...

Re: Cannot Open Audacity Files in Beta
Open "My Computer" Tools menu > Folder Options Select the "File Types" tab and wait for the list to be populated. Search very carefully through the list and look for the file type "AUP" If the file type is in the list we will edit it. If this file type is not listed, we...

Audacity 1.2.6 was made to run on old hardware with old operating systems (1.2.6 is old) and does not always work so well on newer machines.
You also have one very good (overriding?) reason to use a more recent version.thereformant wrote:for a variety of reasons, I need to be using the stable version.

Re: Chris's Compress crashes Audacity - Pamela/Skype recordi
I then decided to uninstall Audacity completely. I used RegCure to get rid (hopefully) of any remnants of Audacity from the Registry and re-installed Audacity. Audacity 1.3.x does not use the registry. Audacity 1.2.x did use the registry, so if you have previously used Audacity 1.2.x then you may h...

Re: telephone recording
Probably the easiest way is to use a speaker-phone, then place a microphone so that it picks up both your voice and the speaker. The other persons voice will be way below "broadcast quality", but I think broadcast quality requires some pretty heavy duty (expensive) equipment. There's plent...

Re: How to amplify without clipping
Personally I like my loud bits loud and my quiet bits quiet (even in the car) - compression trashes the dynamic range of a lot of classical music .... When the new Bentley is delivered I'll happily go back to the original uncompressed recordings, but while I'm still tootling around in the old Morga...

Re: missing initial sounds
BTW, my interface selection was "MMC", but I changed it to "Windows DirectSound" to see if that helped. What do these do? They provide alternative methods that Windows can use to communicate with the sound card. Usually "Direct Sound" will be more efficient (better), b...

Re: Recorded track but won't play back or save file
When you save an Audacity project, it creates two items inside the folder you specified for the project: * a _data folder bearing the name of the project, containing its audio data (in the form of many 1 MB-sized uncompressed .au files). * an .aup project file bearing the same project name, which is...
