Whatever it is that is telling you that it is an MP3 is misleading you.

The file format is not MP3, it is "iTunes v7.6.0.29, QuickTime 7.4 / MPEG-4 AAC audio / 12000 Hz" (1 minute 7 seconds) (not supported by Audacity 1.2) If you have iTunes on your computer I think you can use iTunes to convert it to WAV format, which IS supported by Audacity 1.2 (I don't use...

Yes, Lame is an extra download, but.... I'm trying to make the file into a mp3 thing. something that i can download onto a disk. Any reason why not export as WAV?
