Re: Question about Connections?

Re: Can Someone Find an Ubuntu Equivalent?
I have doubts about the legality of recording from Spotify, but for getting Spotify to run in Linux you need to install WINE.

Re: failed installation on linux
Download the full source tarball (.tar.bz2 file, 17.4 MB) from here http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_source#recdown If you get the same error, try running ./configure --with-lib-preference="local system" I don't know if this will work, but it looks like your "taglib" is too ...

Re: MEPIS + Audacity = Trouble
Does other sound work ok on your machine? If not, fix that first. Can you set Audacity Preferences to use ALSA? If other sound is working, try installing ALSAMixer - run ALSA mixer and check that there are both recording and playback devices available. One of the problems here is that many Linux dis...

Re: Ubuntu Linux-related question?
Everything that did work with wubi should work with a full clean install. You may also be able to get some things working that were not working, but no guarantees there. If you do a normal install from the Ubuntu live CD (the normal Ubuntu iso) you get an option to set up dual boot. I think the defa...

If you are able to build Audacity from source...
download the latest source code
delete the hidden folder /home/<username>/.audacity_data
build Audacity from source.
(make sure that you get no errors about missing dependencies)

Re: Filename/track name when importing
I can think of plenty of other things to get more annoyed about
Personally I've never found this a problem, but I'll see if I can find out anything about it.

Re: Need a Mic
If you are whispering, then the fan / drive noise from your computer will be significant. Headset microphones are generally optimised for speech rather than singing, but you can get remarkably good (clear) vocal recordings from some USB headset microphones at a remarkably low price. (Some headset mi...

Re: Sporadic Recording Muting
I'm just connecting a standard 3.5mm pc mic to my 3.5mm line-in mic jack on my laptop. That is probably the problem. The mic inputs on PC laptops are generally designed for voip (Skype and similar) and not for even semi-serious recording work. The sound quality of these inputs is usually poor, and ...
