Re: Windows 7 and Audacity query
Before when I used vista I remember going to the Recording tab of the sound settings and making one the devices default and I would be able to record sound from my speakers. However I can no longer do this. Have you set it to show Disabled and Disconnected devices? http://wiki.audacityteam.org/inde...

Re: Mastering Vinyl
Yes that's done what you said you wanted. Personally I prefer to normalise to just below 0dB. If you look at the file in Audacity (1.3) and turn on "show clipping" (View menu) you will see a few red vertical lines where the waveform is banging against 0dB. There's only a few lines, so it p...

Re: Effects doesn´t work, please help!
Ladspa plug-ins do not require the VST enabler, so you can safely remove that. To install the LADSPA plug-ins, make sure that you have downloaded the Windows version (ladspa-0.4.15.exe) from this page: http://audacityteam.org/download/plugins This is an installation file which you must run to instal...

Which effects?
Which file?
Which version of Audacity?
Which version of Windows?
Exactly what did you do?
When you do everything right, you still need to restart Audacity before the effects become available.

Re: Mastering Vinyl
Here's a quick example of the type of result you can get. This is taken from the first "before" example. I only spent a few minutes on it just to get some ballpark figures to play with, so with a bit of tweaking you will be able to master to your own taste. http://audacity.easyspacepro.com...

Re: Audacity 1.3.9 too slow in Karmic Koala
It's still worth having "Pulse Audio Device Chooser" and "Pulse Audio Mixer" if they are not already installed. Apart from anything else it allows you to record "Stereo Mix". Are these installed by default in Karmic? (PulseAudio recommend that they should be installed a...

Re: Mastering Vinyl
Based on the first of those examples: SC4 dynamic compressor, followed by Equalization, followed by a peak limiter. Use fast attack and decay times on the SC4 and set it to "Peak". The compression ratio should probably be no more than 4:1. Do not use makeup gain. The threshold level will d...

Re: Listening to what u record in real time possible?
I am thinking of buying an external sound card, and maybe an usb mic Note that Audacity can only record from one device at a time, so you will not be able to use an external sound card and a USB microphone at the same time. One sound card or one USB microphone - that's it. If you want to use severa...

Re: Sound has disappeared from .au files
Everything is saved to the temp directory. The AU files inside the _data folder are not created until you Save and name the project. You'll note that if you do a long recording into an untitled project, when you first save there is a "writing data files" (or some such) dialog that pops up...

Re: Sound has disappeared from .au files
For once I've no theory about why this happened, but I can explain one part: usually, the .au files would have file created timestamps throughout the recording session. However, all of the files in the _data directory have their file created time within 2 minutes of each other (all say created at ei...
