Make sure that you only use alphanumeric characters in the file name and try again.
(Space, hyphen and underscore are also OK, but other special characters can create illegal file names that your computer will refuse to write).

I presume you are on Windows?
Perhaps Vista?

You need to find the sound card's mixer and set the correct recording input and recording level. You will probably find it via a loudspeaker icon near the system Time/date. If not, look in the Windows Control Panel (sounds and audio devices).
