Re: Saving speeches - pipe directly to MP3
Ah, Linux - now there's a lot more options :D "gnome-sound-recorder" can record direct to MP3, Ogg, FLAC, MP2, AAC, SPX or WAV (providing that you have the necessary codecs installed - "Ubuntu Restricted Extras" should contain most of what you need). Speex format (.SPX) is an exc...

Re: First time user question
There are 2 "current versions" - 1.2.6 (stable - but very old) and 1.3.9 (beta in name, but is due to become the new 2.0 stable version next month). Audacity 1.3.9 is currently the recommended version. There's probably something a bit "iffy" about that file - iTunes and QuickTime...

Re: HELP -- CPU not reading input
Under "Recording Control: Properties": Recording Control; CD Player; Line In 1 or 2; Microphone; Stereo Mix...all of them are selected (checked) except for the last -- Stereo Mix. Select (check) "Stereo Mix" as well (so that they all have ticks) and Click the "OK" butt...

Re: First time user question
There is no "Audacity 2.5.1"
If you are using Audacity 1.2.5 then you are using an obsolete version.
Download and install Audacity 1.3.9 from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/

Re: Installing Audacity crashes XP Pro.
I don't think that Audacity is capable of creating such a spectacular crash. Even if Audacity goes into nuclear meltdown, your system should still be running. I suspect that there is something more fundamentally unstable about your computer. For now I would suggest leaving Audacity and running your ...

Re: HELP -- CPU not reading input
I have no idea what version of Aud I'm using Open Audacity. Click on the "Help" menu and select "About Audacity..." The only place I find this field is through my CONTROL PANEL - sounds and audio devices - audio: Yes, that's exactly right. You will notice that this window is div...

Did you reset the Audacity Preferences?
Did you get prompted to select "English"?
On OS X the preferences are stored in a file called "audacity.cfg" which is located in: ~/Library/Preferences/audacity Preferences

Re: Saving speeches - pipe directly to MP3
Yes, there's quite a few options for recording direct to MP3. I use a Zoom H2.
