Re: HELP! Nothing is being recorded!
Yes leahc, Audacity is a good program for recording, but this topic is an ongoing attempt to sort out cherrystarxx's problem. Have a browse of the forum, and of the "Tips" and "Tutorials" links at the top of the page. Download and install Audacity 1.3.9 (much better than the old ...

Re: Reverb
I prefer Freeverb to G-verb, but both are capable of decent results with a bit of tweaking. I would definitely recommend applying "wet" reverb to a duplicate of the track, then mixing the original (dry) track with the reverb (wet) track, rather than trying to guess the wet/dry mix. I find ...

Re: Recording/Playback at a Specific dB level
If you are using a USB turntable, look underneath it and see if there is a volume control.

Re: HELP! Nothing is being recorded!
So this is a microphone with a little round plug that plugs into your sound card?
If so, check that you are plugged into a "Microphone" input and not a "Line" input.
Do you know what sort of sound card you are using?

Re: Unable to record via sound card w/SonyVaio VGN-SR220J La
Yes Vista (and Windows 7) have a completely different sound system to previous Windows versions. I liked the sound system on XP, but not at all on Vista. Sometimes you can activate more inputs in the manner described here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Windows_Vista_OS#Using_the_Contr...

Re: Pasting mono tracks onto stereo creates problem
I was just trying to copy and paste a mono track onto a stereo track Upgrade to Audacity 1.3.9 (or wait a few weeks and upgrade to Audacity 2.0). (Audacity 1.2 is ancient and lacks many useful features that are now available). In Audacity 1.3.x you just move your audio clips along the time line (wi...
Re: jumping!
I don't think it's the specification of your computer - I have an old 500 MHz Pentium III that runs Audacity fine to more than 10 tracks. I do have a proper PCI sound card though - if you're using either on-board sound or USB sound then the performance may well be worse. (it is also a very clean mac...

Re: ubuntu plug in issues
It would probably be easiest to upgrade your operating system - Warty is no longer supported by Ubuntu, so I can't even suggest getting the official Ubuntu Warty version of Audacity. Building Audacity from source is also going to be problematic without internet access. Perhaps your best bet would be...

Re: E.Q. Frequency chart needed!!
The technical name for this effect would be: "Semi-parametric equalizer with optional normalisation". ("noramalization" in some parts of the world). In the Spectrum Analizer, you may see a peak, (or trough) that you want to adjust so as to achieve a more even frequency response. ...
