If no tracks are selected Audacity appears to try to record to all tracks. If the number of channels to be recorded doesn't match the input settings then that error message is technically correct if a bit unhelpful. Without detailed information about your set-up and an example WAV file it could be just about anything. A poor microphone, poor sound card, incorrect recording levels, exporting in a low quality format..... or any number of other things.

I very much doubt that it had anything to do with Audacity. More likely that your computer was critically low on resources and on the point of crashing.

Aargh!!! :( :D OK, the problem with setting it to record "Stereo Mix" is that it records everything that comes out through the speakers. That's why it is recording all tracks that are playing in addition to recording your voice. The reason that it is recording louder is because of the comb...
