Re: Record speed

You can also try changing the default sample rate in Audacity (Edit menu > Preferences > Quality). Recommended settings are 44100 or 48000, but some sound cards are much happier with one than the other.

Re: HELP! Nothing is being recorded!

Check that you still have "Mic" set as the recording input in your sound card control panel (sound card mixer). If that is also set correctly, check that your sound card does not have any "effects" enabled (some sound cards have "environmental effects" which are suppose...

Re: Double-invocation hides the first window

Try closing all instances of Audacity and rebooting the computer. If Audacity still does not open correctly you will need to reset the Audacity Preferences: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... defaults_2

The issue is listed as a "P3" in the "Release Checklist http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Release_Checklist The note that accompanies it is: "Not reproducible to order, but very likely to occur with large numbers of labels in a track. Once it occurs, typing "j&quo...

Re: Cannot import AIFF in Karmic Koala, works fine in OSX

Attached is a short test tone - extract the file "chirp.aiff" and see if that will import. It is a 2 second stereo "chirp" in 16 bit AIFF format. How do you tell whether something is compressed, or not? For Linux, there is an excellent little program called MediaInfo. This progra...

Re: HELP! Nothing is being recorded!

You're using Audacity 1.3.9? (you can check this in "Help > About Audacity")

For Audacity 1.3.9 only:
Open "Edit menu > Preferences > Recording Tab" and check that "Software Playthrough" is not selected.

Re: Potential new user - question on suitability

Audacity will be a good audio editor to use, but you should do your editing on uncompressed audio files (WAV or AIFF). Your video editor application should be able to work with uncompressed files and convert them to the necessary format. Audacity 1.3.8 has now been replaced by 1.3.9. Upgrading is hi...

Re: "Cut" feature cutting too much :(

I've not seen this problem reported for a while now, so it may have been fixed. Could you try the latest "Nightly" version and see if that fixes the problem. (available here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... tly_Builds )
