Re: Reducing overall size of recording
Recompressing MP3s is not such a great idea as there is always a further loss in sound quality. It is much better if you can work from the original uncompressed audio (WAV file or Audacity Project). I would recommend that you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.10 These instructions are for Audacity 1.3.10 If t...

Re: Get the most volume, and perceived volume, from audacity
It reduces the "dynamic range" of music.
Depending on how you use it, it may make the music sound a bit punchier, or less punchy. The main thing that it does is allow you to amplify the sound more without distortion. Play with it and see what effects you can get.

OK, you have me totally confused now.Havok wrote:When I record I only listen to the back ground track and not my guitar, but with headphones.
How do you know that the recorded sound is wrong if you cannot hear the what you are recording?

Re: Audacity stops recording after few seconds
I don't think I am going to be able to help you. You have a considerably hacked Ubuntu system that is only partially working. PulseAudio is an important part of the Ubuntu sound system and removing it is like ripping half of the guts out - it breaks lots of things. Unfortunately there is also a lot ...

Re: Compiling Audacity with Asio
We could settle for Linux as well if someone has easier instructions they wouldn't mind sending me. For Linux, don't use ASIO, use Jack. The performance of Jack running with a standard Linux kernel is roughly the same as ASIO on Windows. If your hardware will run correctly with an "rt" ke...

Re: update 1.3.9 to 1.3.10 - convert files to directories
Find the folder C:Program FilesAudacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode)help and delete it (the "help" folder). Then install Audacity 1.3.10 again.
The developers are aware of this issue (I reported it this morning).

Re: Audacity importing random joint stereo tracks as mono
That's a stereo file all right, and sure enough, it does not work in Audacity 1.2.6.
Upgrade to Audacity 1.3.10 and it works (Audacity 1.2.6 is very old and soon to be retired).

Re: Way to set Mike volume higher?
Blue Snowball mike (Not that it matters, That's quite important - The "20 dB boost" in your sound card settings is only for conventional microphones that plug into the sound card. It has no effect on USB microphones. To set the recording level for the blue snowball microphone, see here: h...

Re: Static on Recordings
It sounds like for some reason your computer is not recording the audio fast enough. This could be due to a virus checker interfering (try temporarily switching it off), compatibility problems between your sound card drivers and Windows 7 (are updated drivers available?), other programs/processes ho...

Re: Sound doesn't work?
You may need to tell Audacity what audio device you want it to use.
What version of Audacity are you using? (Help menu > About Audacity)
