Re: Audacity stops recording after few seconds

However certain Raymond, whoever he is, keeps insisting that certain piece of software called 'portaudio' somehow interferes with recording. I think it's a combination - Audacity uses 'portaudio' to access the sound system (ALSA). I'm not wanting to go trawling through this topic as we seem to have...

Use the sound card mixer application to mute the microphone.

Re: Re locating data files

Edit menu > Preferences
Set the default location for the "temporary files directory".
sorry, I can't be more specific without knowing which version of Audacity you are using - but it's somewhere in Preferences.

Re: Multiple Export of MP3

Use a different program to convert them. Audacity is great at many things, but it's not particularly good for transcoding files. There's plenty of free programs that can do batch conversion. I use SUPER by erightsoft.

Re: Audacity Always Records Through Mic Array, Not Line In

Do you have an option in Audacity Preferences (Edit menu > Preferences > Devices) to set the recording and playback devices to "Microsoft Sound Mapper"? If "Line-in" is selected in the Windows Control Panel as the default recording device, then Microsoft Sound Mapper should route...

Re: Recorded tracks FADE OUT automatically

Is this strictly a Windows problem, or is it specific to certain hardware? The noise is due to the hardware. It costs money to build a quiet microphone pre-amp, but because everyone is looking to get maximum bang for their buck, the manufacturers allocate around 7 cents for the sound card. The prob...

Re: Multitrack recording - direct to Audacity or external de

It's always good to hear from someone that can tell us that Audacity has success with a multi-channel device.
+1 for your suggestion about "channel mapping"

Re: codec

I have contacted Toshiba, Microsoft and Crosley for help and they all direct me back to Audacity for assistance. That doesn't surprise me - weird isn't it that open-source seems to care more about its "customers" than commercial software ;) So let's take Audacity right out of the picture ...

Re: 1.3.10 import issue

Audacity is probably using ffmpeg to import the RAW files. There's a long discussion going on between the developers regarding ffmpeg. FFmpeg is a third party library (not made by the Audacity team) and from what I can gather, the people that make it keep changing it so that every time there is an f...
