Re: Recording detects sound even though nothing is playing
Was the settings, as described in my initial post, the right (and best?) ones (apart from 'wrong' sound card) for capturing streamed audio with minimal/no loss in quality? It's the second best method, but often the best method is not possible. Depending on what and how the audio is being streamed i...

Re: Help With Noise Removal In Classical Piano Piece
Did my latest upload with the new levels not produce the desirable results? That's a vast improvement, though as you mention there is a little bit of "clipping" (overload on the loudest bits). It's about what I would expect with the equipment that you are using. The noise level from the k...

Re: Re locating data files
Good point koz - I was in a bit of a hurry but I meant to add, a good quality, fast memory card should be fine for recording. I tried recording directly to an unbranded thumb drive - it worked with 16 bit 44.1Hz, but fell over with any higher settings. I then tried a branded thumb drive and it worke...

Re: Playback volume too low
Try using the "Amplify" effect (with default settings). Does that improve it?

Re: Recording detects sound even though nothing is playing
it always has this slightly higher noise floor on the right. -38dB noise level is not what I'd describe as "slightly" high - I'm not going to argue about upgrading the sound card - the option for laptops that won't break the back is to go for an external USB sound card. ART USB microphone...

Re: Export into MP3...blank play back
The "silent" MP3 may be because of the sample rate or bit depth that you are using. As a test, set Audacity to record at 16 bit 44100 Hz (Edit menu > Preferences > Quality). Record, import or generate some sound - check that it plays back, then Export as MP3 (use the MP3 preset, not the FF...

USB: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BV ... oh_product (no settings on it) Is there not a switch for changing from microphone level input (very small signal) and Line level input (massively bigger signal)? If there is a switch, then you have almost certainly got it switched to microphone and i...

Re: Recording detects sound even though nothing is playing
Couldn't locate any specific 'sound card mixer application' There's usually a loudspeaker icon near to the time/date on the Desktop. If you have that icon, then that's it, but you man need to go through all the "Advanced" and "Options" buttons and tabs to find where to mute the ...

Re: Not the program I need?
Perhaps if you could give a clearer idea of what you are doing we may be able to provide better suggestions. For example, why are you working out the bpm for hundreds of pieces of music? ('Nyquist returned the number 16642.71885329' or similar) Are you using a European installation of Audacity? Exac...
