Really simple tone control plug-in

The Equalizer in Audacity is an excellent and flexible way of adjusting the tone of a recording, but if you just want to quickly boost or cut the bass (low frequencies) or treble (high frequencies) it is possibly overly complicated. For a really simple tone control I've made a "Tone Control&quo...

Re: Poor sound quality...

I agree, it sounds terrible. What exactly are you recording and how are you recording it?

Re: Saving files

When you open Audacity 1.2.6 and click on the File menu, it should look something like this:

Re: process menu

I'm not surprised you're having trouble, the instructions are wrong. The version of Audacity that you have is also probably very old. I would normally suggest updating to the latest Audacity 1.3 beta version, but there is a known bug in this. Fortunately a version of 1.3 in which this bug has been f...

Re: distortion in phones while recording

i have this same problem in audacity Maybe and maybe not - I don't think that we established for certain what juliakasdorf's problem was. it would seem to me that the cross traffic might be somehow problematic.. but that might be silly.. That is one of the possibilities - USB connections are uni-di...

Re: adding to the program

Since you are interested in replacing sounds with other sounds, you may be interested in this plug-in. It can do what you were originally asking for: I need to be able to replace a sound with white noise, but this white noise needs to maintain the "amplitude envelope" of the original sound...

Re: Unable to Launch stable version

Do you have the VST enabler installed for Audacity 1.2 ?
If you do, remove it and try launching Audacity 1.2

Re: Unable to Launch stable version

Cubase will use ASIO drivers by default but Audacity does not support ASIO - Audacity uses the standard Windows drivers. Go into the Windows Control Panel and in the Sounds section, set the Presonus as the default device for recording and playback. Find the hidden file "audacity.cfg" on yo...

Re: Newly installed microphone disappeared

Click on the "Safely remove hardware" icon near the time/date - the USB microphone should be listed as a connected device. If it is not listed, then Windows has not recognised it.

The USB microphone must be connected and recognised by Windows before you open Audacity.

Re: adding to the program

Take a real word like "legislatures", replace the first "s" with white noise, present the edited audio clip to a subject (in the context of a full sentence like "The constituents met with their legislatures", and tell them that some sound was replaced with static noise...
