Re: Poor Quality Sound Recording

just an integrated audio capability on the motherboard. Would this impact my sound quality during digitization? Yes it will. The quality of the sound card will have a direct impact on the quality of the recording (assuming that you are not using a USB cassette player). Make sure that you are using ...

Re: 1.3.10, channel mapping while exporting to .ac3

a suggestion that the order was changed between Audacity 1.3.6 and 1.3.7 That bit is incorrect. By default Audacity always maps track 1 > channel 1, track 2 > channel 2, ..... Only problem is, the channels aren't labeled "center," "right," "LFE," etc.; they're labeled ...

Re: Installing a second device

Disconnect the Tape, connect the turntable, reboot. Wait for booting to complete and check in the Windows Control Panel that the TT is available as a recording device (see here for how to do this on Vista http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Windows_Vista_OS#Using_the_Control_Panel_to_select...

Re: Fixing a "pothole" in a recording

I've tried..... duplication of sections to paste over it That is almost the way to do it. Rather than just pasting the "patch" over the bad bit, you need to put the "patch" onto another track and cross-fade from one to the other. I hope this illustration makes the process clear:...

Re: small distortions in the frequency spectrum while editin

Yes they are both normal and undesirable. When you play that region you will hear a click where the vertical line is. If we look at a close-up of the waveform where one of those vertical lines is you can probably work out what has gone wrong. Here I've generated a 700 Hz tone (it is a lot easier to ...

Re: Audacity crashes when I use noise removal.

Just to check that it isn't related to the VST plug-in that you mentioned, go to Edit menu > Preferences > Effects and disable VST effects. Restart Audacity, then try the Noise Removal effect.

Re: How to get defaults to work right in export-multiple?

i might suggest that for future revs, it's worth either changing the behaviour of, or removing the "set defaults" and/or "save" buttons on the metadata dialog, to avoid giving the impression that you can get those values to stick. At least one user found it massively confusing f...

Re: budget (usb) mic for classical guitar recording needed

When using with the laptop, I shouldn't have problem, since it's very quiet. It shouldn't be "too much" of a problem, but if I'm recording with my SC450 onto my laptop (in the same room) and the fan kicks in (not loud) I can hear it on the recording. It's not loud, but it is definitely th...

Re: Convert space between clips to silence?

In Audacity 1.3.11 empty space between audio clips = silence, but any silence before the first audio clip is discarded. I believe that this is intentional (it is consistent with previous versions of Audacity) as it allows people that are using multi-track recording projects to leave some "run i...
