Go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices" and tell me what all of your settings are. I suspect the problem is in there, but of course I can't look for myself, so you'll have to look for me

There is a tool called Auto Ducking, but that should be avoided as it produces pumping orchestration. If you're sitting in front of a script, you are a much better judge of mix and volume.
