Re: Mac Audacity Skinable?

Rumour has it that current versions of Audacity 1.3 still support "themes" and that it is just the option in Preferences to enable theme support that has been removed. If you obtain an old version of Audacity that has Theme support and look at the changes that it makes to the "audacit...

Re: Lost clips when cutting and pasting to another trk

No that's not normal. I've not seen Audacity do anything like that. I don't know if it will fix these problems, but Audacity 1.3.11 is now out - it's basically the same as 1.3.10 with some fairly important bug fixes so it is recommended that you update. Having never come across this problem before I...

Re: max. filesize?

Export it in sections and use a playlist. Many media players support playlists, so the user will just tell the media player to play the playlist and it will play each file as a continuous "track" according to the playlist. With this method the total size can be as big as you like.

Re: VST effects too slow to render

It's not just VST effects. The Nyquist effects are also considerably slower in Audacity 1.3. I mentioned this to one of the developers some time ago and he was going to look into it. In the run up to the Audacity 2.0 release the emphasis is on stability rather than speed, but I agree that this shoul...

Excellent.
In Audacity 1.3.11, go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices" and set the Host to MME and the Recording device to Microsoft Sound Mapper.
Set the playback device to your sound card.

Re: please help i'm a newbee

Normalize amplifies left and right separately which can lead to channel imbalance. This is a common argument on the forum. That's absolutely true of Normalize in Audacity, but the discussion here is of using Normalize in Nero. I don't know for sure, but I think that Nero normalizes linked stereo (b...

Re: Download of "Manual".

Ubuntu 9.10 does not have "Add - Remove". Synaptic can not find Fileroller, nor can "Ubuntu Software Centre" In 9.04 and previous versions, Add/Remove is at the bottom of the "Applications" menu. They may have moved it in 9.10, but I don't see why they should. File-Rol...

Re: first 3 seconds records fine, then...

If there is no setting for it then you've got a problem. I've seen laptops where there is no setting for it in the actual sound cards interface (from the icon near the time/date) but there has been one hidden away in the Control Panel. Hopefully it is similar on your computer and you will discover i...

Re: export project to work on in Cubase LE????

You will have tracks the right length so they will line up correctly.

There's actually quite a lot of things that you can do that will help you - have a good play with Audacity and get familiar with it - especially the Export functions - before you attempt anything serious.
