On the projects that have the problem, try opening them in the new version of Audacity and save them with a different name. Watch out for any error messages. Open the new (copy) project and try the noise reduction. Does it still crash?

Audacity is distributed without ASIO support (the ASIO license does not allow it to be distributed in open source software). I think you can do the same thing with PulseAudio on Linux. PulseAudio is a standard part of the sound system on many Linux distributions and allows you to stream audio to any other computer on your network.

You probably need to get closer - much closer to the microphone. How far away from your mouth is the microphone when you are recording? Are you singing, talking, shouting or whispering?
