On the projects that have the problem, try opening them in the new version of Audacity and save them with a different name. Watch out for any error messages. Open the new (copy) project and try the noise reduction. Does it still crash?

I think you can do the same thing with PulseAudio on Linux. PulseAudio is a standard part of the sound system on many Linux distributions and allows you to stream audio to any other computer on your network.

You probably need to get closer - much closer to the microphone. How far away from your mouth is the microphone when you are recording? Are you singing, talking, shouting or whispering?
