On the other hand, if Audacity is not what they want, they're quite at liberty to use a different program - it's not as if they've paid a lot of money to try Audacity. A problem for Spanish users is that much of the documentation is unavailable in Spanish.

That entirely depends on the drivers. I've not used many USB interfaces but the ones that I have used don't respond to Audacity's recording level setting.

laptop/netbook mic sockets are not designed to work with that sort of microphone - sometimes they will work a bit and sometimes they buzz really badly. They rarely work well. A better solution is to use an external (USB) microphone pre-amp, though that will cost a bit of money.

If you are recording on a laptop computer there is a very good chance that the input is a mono microphone input. Does your guitar amp have a stereo output? Are you using a stereo lead? I'm not sure why you're recording the guitar in stereo, I f you want to layer multiple recordings and position them...

have you tried refreshing the VST list?
