Re: Phone answering machine messages to PC

It's not irrelevant if you're sitting on top of/under a generator. Neither is it irrelevant if the power is significantly non-sinusoidal as this would produce significantly greater EMI. If you can test the equipment at a totally different location then we can rule out localised EMI effects. Until we...

Re: Problem converting to MP3

48000Hz is the maximum sample rate supported by MP3. The old 1.2.6 version just downsampled automatically when necessary without offering any options. For maximum compatibility select 44100Hz as the destination sample rate. Working at 128kHz is rather excessive if your final format is MP3. The incre...

Re: How do I do cut out a sentnce and replace it a with new

Make sure that you have a WAV file of the original recording (Export as "16 bit Microsoft PCM WAV") 1) Open a new Audacity project. 2) Record the new sentence. 3) Import the original WAV file - this will go onto a new track. 4) Find the sentence that you want to replace and select it (clic...

Re: HELP: Sound variations between two computers

I have had one computer IT for a corporation tell me that my issues is likely the difference in sound card The sound card may make a difference to playback, but it will make no difference at all to the recording. USB microphones bypass the sound card completely. To find out if it a playback issue, ...

Trebor wrote:(MP3s made by Audacity are noticeably noisy in silent bits).
Really? That's not happening here. Which version of Lame are you using? (there was a release of Lame for Audacity that was noisy in some situations but it should now be fixed).

Re: Lame installer

Good question. The obvious place to install to would be the Audacity installation folder. However, there is no guarantee that the Audacity installation folder will be where it is expected to be. If the ZIP version of Audacity is used then it could be "installed" anywhere (even on a USB mem...

Re: Phone answering machine messages to PC

Totally rural, off the grid, So where does your power come from? Since you are using a Netbook, could you try making a recording with the pickup somewhere outside of your home (or wherever it is that you are using this). No need to use a telephone, we just want to see if the source of the hum is lo...

Re: Record sound very quiet

Use Audacity 1.3.11 When you record from "Stereo Mix", the recording level is set by both the recording and playback levels that are set in the sound cards mixer. RealTek sound cards usually have a control panel application that puts a brown loudspeaker icon near to the time/date on your d...

Re: editing a drum track

The drum loops are two measures long. What I want is the first half of measure one to repeat continually Use the current version of Audacity 1.3 You can have both versions installed so there's no need to uninstall 1.2.6 One limitation - Audacity 1.2.6 cannot open projects that have been saved by Au...

Re: Win7 & no "Line-In" recording device ALC1200 Audio Codec

I am wondering why I cannot select Line-In. Is this because there is nothing plugged into the port? Or is this a software/driver issue. Possibly yes and yes. I've been into the control panel and enabled Line-In (Sounds -> Recording -> ticked show disabled devices, enabled Line-In). Exactly what I w...
