Re: Problems with Cakewalk UA-1G and recording

We seem to be getting there, but it sounds like you are currently recording mono. Open Audacity and go to "Edit menu > Preferences" on the first tab, select "Number of channels: 2 (stereo)" Now repeat the second test (tapping the free ends of the RCA leads). Do you now get a buzz...

Re: from tape to windows xphome edition - no sound

It sounds like you are doing everything right, but there's one bit that sounds strange: My computer will not, however, let me select input by putting a mark in the check box, Are you looking at something like this? http://wiki.audacityteam.org/w/images/thumb/8/87/Xpcp.PNG/350px-Xpcp.PNG If not, can ...

Re: Weird sound while recording

I expect the problem is a sound card setting, but it would be good to positively rule out all the equipment that comes before the sound card. Can you connect some other audio source (for example a CD player or computer mic) to the input of your sound card. If the problem is just the same, find your ...

Re: sizing

Why can't you un-maximize it in the normal way with the button in the top right corner of the window (just like any other Windows application)? What happens if you try that?

Re: Input Monitor not working

OK, thanks for the clarification. Clicking on the downward arrow brings a menu, and I drop down to "Start Monitoring" and click on it. You should also be able to activate/disable (toggle on/off) the recording meter by simply clicking on the meter itself. This is quicker, but unless there i...

Re: Need Help with Advertisement

An MP3 of total silence should be total silence, and that is exactly what you get from Lame-for-Audacity. Q) So where's that noise coming from? A) Dither. Audacity does all "mixing" in 32 bit and that includes Exporting. When audio is encoded as MP3 the bit depth is dropped to 16bit and is...

Only in older versions of Audacity. The current beta version does not change the zoom level after generating silence (which in my opinion is much better).

Re: Problem converting to MP3

Did that .aup/MP3 export actually ignore the 128000 rate subverting it down to the 41000 region? Audacity 1.2.6 with the current version of Lame will shove it down to 48kHz. There is probably no harm with using 48kHz but there is a small chance that some applications will not play it back at the ri...
