Re: Converting Full Scale to Decibel Full Scale
I see that Audacity measures decibels in "dBfs," or "decibel full-scale," where 0 dBfs represents the LOUDEST that a sample can be (the clipping point, or 1 and -1 in full scale), and the rest is represented by how many decibels QUIETER a sample is from that point, so that we on...

Most of your questions are covered in the Tutorial I posted the link to. Here it is again: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Transferring_tapes_and_records_to_computer_or_CD How good is your turntable? Most of the USB ones are not that good (they're made to a price so that people will transfer their...

Almost forgot, one of the forum regulars (who has don a LOT of vinyl transfers) swears by the Click Repair program here: http://www.clickrepair.net/ It's not free, but it is quite inexpensive and is highly rated. Re: Suggestions needed for how to Email MP3
Alternatives to uploading to a file sharing site are:
To use a file sharing program (for example BitTorrent)
Transfer the file via an Instant Messenger program - though you would probably need to chop it into 4MB chunks (for example AIM or Pidgin)
GMail is good for up to 25MB

Re: Setup for Windows 7
Most old turntables require a "phono pre-amp". Some hi-fi amplifiers (mostly older ones) have these built in. You can also buy USB phono pre-amps - these can be good because they bypass the (usually low quality) sound card in the computer. If you go for a USB sound card, check that it is c...

Re: low level audio
Select the bit you want to amplify (click and drag with the mouse)
Then use "Amplify" from the Effects menu.
