Re: internal microphone

I have a Toshiba netbook with an internal microphine. Is it ok to use this when recording the speaking voice with Audacity? You can. but the sound quality is likely to be very poor. I have tried recording but now the mic isn't working. Go into the Sound Settings in the Windows Control Panel and set...

Re: Imported songs a burst of noise!

Try importing these files:
piano.wav
(1.06 MiB) Downloaded 41 times
piano.mp3
(100.19 KiB) Downloaded 97 times
piano.ogg
(142.31 KiB) Downloaded 37 times
Note that just because a file says that it a WAV file (has a ".WAV" extension) does not mean that it IS a WAV file. (You could take ANY file and name it as a WAV file).
(Thanks to Koz for the original sound sample)

Re: Problems with Windows 7

You beauty, great set of images - I think I see the problem. Your playback is set to an NVidia device and your recording is set to a RealTek device. My guess is that these are physically separate devices, so while the RealTek is set to record all the sounds that are playing (through the RealTek soun...

Re: Noise gate effect problem

IMO, for recording from a cassette player, a Behringer UCA 202 (or equivalent) would be a good choice.

There are icons for "Microphone" and "Line In"?
Right Click on one of the icons and select "Properties".

So you want all of the items from the track drop-down menu in the main menu bar "Tracks" menu?

That is likely to happen if you are running Jack audio server. Are you?

Re: recording quality

It sounds very much like a USB problem. Some general tips: * Check the Project Rate bottom left of the Audacity screen is set to either 44 100 or 48 000 Hz - setting a very high rate might overload the USB bandwidth and cause transmission problems * Check the USB cable for tightness at both ends and...
