Re: Cant Record from USB Headphones

It's a USB headset with headphones and a microphone? It doesn't surprise me that "Stereo Mix" is not available - people using a headset would not normally want to have their own voice echoing through the headphones while they try to make a phone call. If you click on the little black arrow...

Re: Problems with Windows 7

What audio sockets have you got on your computer? Are they labelled or colour coded?

Re: 1st track recording on 2nd track

How are you recording? A microphone? How are you monitoring? Headphones? How much "spill over" are you getting from one track to the other?
If you are using Vista or Windows 7 you should be using Audacity 1.3.11

Re: Managing excess volume without buzz

I think you may need to invest in a little mixing desk and 2 or 3 microphones, then you would be able to position the microphones and set appropriate levels for each "sound source".

You don't, but if a CD stops working you just burn off another copy from the hard drive.

Re: Fade in and Fade out at the the beginning and end of eac

My new "envelope" effect may be useful for this. Try it with 3 control points, set the 1st and 3rd control point to 1.0 and the 2nd control point (this will be the middle of the fade) to less than 1.0 (0.0 is silence). The "Smooth Envelope" setting will probably be best. To use i...

Re: How can I split a track that has two channels?

In Audacity 1.3.11 (recommended), click on the name of the track, and from the drop down menu select "Split to Mono".*
You can now adjust the (mono) tracks independently.
(*this option is not available in 1.2.6, which makes the process a lot more complicated)

Re: 1st track recording on 2nd track

In the Windows Control Panel, set the default recording source to "Line In" or "Mic in" (depending on which you are using) instead of "Stereo Mix".
Set Audacity Preferences to match.

Re: Managing excess volume without buzz

You can't reach over and turn the recorded volume down, although the Marantz is better at that than the Zoom. You CAN reach over and turn the recording volume down on the Zoom H2 (when using manual recording level). When using AGC (Automatic Gain Control is off by default), the recording level is a...

Re: recording stereo sounds diff than left and right

5. “Make stereo track” from this mono pair. The result: an apparently antiphase pair which isn’t silent, but should be. No it shouldn't be silent unless you are monitoring in mono. You should have "anti-phase" audio from left/right speakers if monitoring in stereo. If you do steps 1 to 4,...
