Re: Help recording with 1.3.11 Beta and Win 7
No worries mate. 9 times out of 10 your suggestion would have been spot on. In spite of their faults the Realtek sound cards usually support "Stereo Mix" (though I don't know if that is still true on Win 7).

Re: Distortion whilst playing back my DJ mix
which plugs into my microphone socket on my laptop, That is the No# 1 problem. Microphones produce teeny-weeny little signals, whereas a "Line level" (record out) from a mixer gives a signal that is massively bigger. With your equipment you need to turn the level down in the mixer until i...

Re: Noise when imported
You are almost certainly trying to import a file type that is noy supported by Audacity 1.2.x Your options (any combination): Convert the file to WAV format ("SUPER" by erightsoft is an excellent free media format converter) and then import it. Upgrade to Audacity 1.3.11 and install FFMpeg...

Re: Capture Audio from DVD or online?
The audio track from DVDs can be "ripped" much like ripping a CD (but more complicated). You can find information about doing that from http://www.doom9.org/ (they are the experts). "Ripping" the audio from the DVD is the highest quality way of doing this. An alternative method i...

Re: Recording too many MB for CD
The forum "Search" facility sucks (sorry). But there is a link for "View your posts" near the top of the page. (or bookmark the page). When you make a post, there is also an option below the composition window to "Notify me when a reply is posted". If you select this op...

Re: Label- Slows down and stops program
I've only tested this on Linux (Ubuntu 9.04). 900 labels with around 5 words per label and Audacity grind to a halt. Exporting the labels and deleting the label track, then starting a new label track and the problem goes away until there are again several hundred labels. I've not yet tried hundreds ...

Re: Help recording with 1.3.11 Beta and Win 7
To find Stereo Mix (at least on my computer), click the start button in the bottom left, select Control Panel, and in the Control Panel select Hardware and Sound, then Sound. That will bring up That is pretty much what it says in the Audacity documentation (http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer_T...

Re: Help recording with 1.3.11 Beta and Win 7
Splitter leads are generally better than splitter adaptors. Adaptors tend to have a nasty habit of crackling just when you don't want them to. The Y lead will probably not work - it is splitting stereo to 2x mono. A "Headphone Splitter" lead would do the job, but it should ideally use shie...

Re: mic for low frequencies
For frequencies down to 0 Hz an electronic barometer will work, though the high frequency cut-off will probably be less than 0.1 Hz (see: Motorola MPX100AP or MPX2100A or MPX2050 - the last two are temperature compensated - the first one isn't. )

Re: Newbie query re extra time at start of track
How do I either - create more time at the start of the project (so I can put a new tune in) or - group all the other 'tracks' together (without merging them) so I can shift them along and make more time at the start. Ctrl+A (select All) F5 key ("Time Shift" tool) Click and drag all of the...
