Re: file extensions

There are two main types of CD that you can make - "data" CDs and "audio" CDs. Data CDs contain files, just like the files on your hard drive. The files can be read on a computer, but most CD players will not play data CDs. The data on a data CD can be any kind of file - it could...

Re: Problems Recording

can audacity export a wav file that is not 44.1/16 ? Yes. The sample rate of the exported WAV file is whatever the "Project Rate" is set at. The Project Rate is set by the "Project Rate" box in the lower left corner of the main Audacity Window. In Audacity 1.2.6 the bit format i...

Re: audacity or cool edit?

but if you use both at work you should know which is best for you I use Audition (not Cool Edit) and Audacity (and ProTools, Cubase, Sonar and Sibelius - but we're just talking about Audacity/Cool Edit here so I'll leave the others out for now). For most things where it is a choice of Audition or A...

Re: Very Low levels from recording voice from mike

OK, I see - you have the same problem but it's completely different ;) The microphone you are using is a conventional (non-usb) microphone, so the recording level is set by your sound card. If you go into the Windows Control Panel (START > Control Panel) and look in the audio section there will prob...

Re: Exporting MP3 to ogg as 6 channel stereo NOT mono

I'm not sure what you mean. Stereo is 2 channel audio.
Could you explain what you did and what result you want to achieve.

This really doesn't have anything to do with "Compiling Audacity" so I'll move it to a more general board.

Re: Ogg quality: smaller file size

The scale 0 to 10 is the Ogg Vorbis "Quality" setting. This is defined by Ogg, not by Audacity. The default quality setting (5) will usually give a compression of around 8:1. The lowest setting (0) will usually give about 20:1 compression. For smaller file sizes you could convert the track...

Re: Ogg quality

When you get to the Export dialogue and you have selected Ogg as the export format, click on the "Options" button and a slider will pop up. The default is 5.

Re: audacity or cool edit?

if they say it is better why ask us too? It seems perfectly reasonable to me to ask for a second opinion. If I'm "shopping around" for something I will try and find out as much as I can about the options and ask lots of people for their opinions. just some people say cool edit is better s...
