What's this? Do you have an external hard drive or a memory stick or something connected?
What exactly do you have connected by USB?

Re: Error - wont record

18 posts in this topic and I've still not got a clear idea of your set-up. Is this right? (please correct me if I've got anything wrong): You are using Audacity 1.3.11 beta Windows Vista 32 bit. ACER 3200 laptop. The Audacity "Devices" settings are: host - mme playback - realtek recording ...

Re: Audacity is looking for NetShell Hardware????

When you eventually get Audacity to launch, go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices". What options do you have for those settings and what is selected? (It's also possible that the problem lies in the Mac sound system configuration, but I'm not a Mac user so I'll leave that side to someon...

Re: File rename command in a chain.

I prefer to have .oga for audio and .ogv for video, otherwise .ogg could be either audio or video and it is difficult to decide which tag should be used. That makes sense. Thanks for settling my curiosity :) Are there any tutorials about how to write Audacity tools? Audacity is mostly written in C+...

Re: How do I get rid of (wa wa) pedal, echo sound effect?

can't find wa wa or echo button. The "wa wa button" does not exist - it was made up by whomper. Is it only new recordings made with Audacity that have the echo? If you export the recording as a WAV file and play it in Windows Media player, does it still have the echo? Which version of Aud...

Re: budget (usb) mic for classical guitar recording needed

If you want to try the Noise Removal effect in Audacity 1.3.11, here's a "trick" that may help to achieve some effective lowering of the noise level without introducing horrible side effects: 1) Record a few seconds of "silence" (and of course record the guitar) 2) Use "Norm...

Re: budget (usb) mic for classical guitar recording needed

The "front" of the microphone is with the microphone positioned vertically and the writing facing toward the sound source. "Cardioid" is the most commonly used pick up pattern. It is generally a good choice unless you have a specific reason for using something else. As expected t...

Re: Big Difference in Audio Quality (Microphone)

The version is Audacity 1.3.9 Unicode. I seem to remember a similar problem a while back. Updating to the current 1.3 version (1.3.11) should sort out the crashing problem. We may not be able to do much about the poor sound quality as it is largely dependent on the microphone and the microphone inp...

Re: DIGITAL GLITCH WHEN RECORDING

Check that you are using the latest drivers for your operating system (get them here: http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/MobilePreUSB.html ) Avoid running other programs in the background - especially anything that is CPU or disk intensive. USB audio is unlikely to run smoothly while Windows is u...

Re: Jitter and Lag Problem

XP is getting pretty old and I'm afraid ms is going to stop supporting it so I'm hesitant to get another machine with xp. That's why I switched to Linux a couple of years ago. The original retirement date for XP was over 5 years ago and it's only because Vista was such an underwhelming success that...
