Re: Newby and need a nerd!!!

Manage to copy the tape but just want to be able to skip tracks when I play the CD I have created if I don't feel like listening to that particular song. There is a tutorial that describes how to split the recording into tracks: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Splitting_recordings_into_separate_t...

Re: Need a way to convert MP3s to WAVs in automated batch mo

You can batch convert using Lame from the command line (or Terminal), or if you prefer a GUI interface you can use "Sound Converter".
As waxcylinder mentioned, I'm also unclear why you would want to do this.

Re: lining up track labels

You can use Ctrl+I to create a "split" in the track. This makes it extremely easy to locate an exact position in a track.
When adjusting labels, they will "snap to" splits in tracks.

Splits do not affect the exported file.

The screen resolution is?
The display dpi setting is?

Audacity 1.2.6 should work OK on Win98SE with a screen resolution of 800x600.

Re: How can one person sound as a complete choir?

Here's a short solo vocal smaple that I grabbed off YouTube, then repeated with "choir". The choir was made from multiple copies of the first sample with changes to the pitch, speed, start time and pan position. The sustain of the note was also adjusted by editing (cut and cross-fade) to p...

Re: Trying to sound like a little girl

This question has come up a few times which is possibly worrying. Changing the character of a voice is extremely complex if it is to be done convincingly. The best way to do it would be to employ the assistance of a child or a young lady. In terms of timbre there is not much difference between the v...

Re: How Do I Overwrite Left Track with Right Track

I believe that on export it creates a two channel track with both sides being the same from the single mono track. If the entire show is mono and centre panned, the exported file will be 1 channel (mono). This is advantageous in that uncompressed file types (such as WAV and AIFF) will use only half...

Re: New forum logo

I think we should have an Audacity Gallery. There's been some great "Audacity" artwork published here on the forum and on the mailing lists, but who knows where those images are now. There's also been some nice "Themes" produced. Hopefully Theme support will be reintroduced at so...

Interesting distinction, but aren't they supposed to be multi-functional? (labels/edit markers/karaoke lyrics/...)
I shall have to ponder this.
