Re: Removing Background Music From Songs

japanese singles all come with a karaoke track without the voice, but ive read everywhere that it doesnt work if you try to subtract the voice and voiceless songs IF you have the full song on CD, (1) AND the full song without vocals, also on CD, (2) AND the backing mix on both recordings are from t...

Re: Chris's Dynamic Compressor Tutorial

Thanks very much. I'm glad that you referred to the "Attack/Release Width/Exponent settings" as "the hard part". Having seen the code I can appreciate the difficulty in explaining it in simple terms, but this documentation goes a long way toward doing that. One thing that makes t...

Re: Help With Highly Dynamic Audio Recording.

I am currently using the dynamic compressor that comes with audacity and only tweaked the first setting to .6 instead of the default .5. ....it seems to working at an acceptable levels now. If you are getting reasonable results using the Audacity compressor, then as pdf23ds has said, you are likely...

Re: how to find max & min samples

The Amplify effect will indicate the max OR min of a selection. The default amplification is to bring the peak level to 0dB ... that's +/- 1.0 If you use Audacity 1.3 and you set "View menu > Show Clipping", and then amplify to 0dB, the place(s) where the waveform touches +/- 0dB will be i...

Re: Rise Time

During a constant sine tone, the rate of change is constant. Not so when the waveform starts from DC.

Consider this waveform:

440Hz Sine

This is a 440Hz sine wave in which every other cycle has been removed.

Re: Metadata for WAVE files?

I believe that Metadata support for WAV files was added because of popular demand. It would be a nice feature if I had an mp3 encoder that could read the metadata in the wave header and automatically put it in the mp3 header Have you tried WinAmp? I don't know if it will do that or not, but it has p...

Re: buzzing noise in the background

You're using Audacity 1.2 yes? So is there anything I can do to solve this problem? As Koz has said, they've got something wired wrong - the left and right channels are out of phase. You need to record the show in stereo "Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O > Channels = 2(stereo)" Record t...

Re: Need help connecting keyboard to pc

MIDI is not audio. To record sound (audio) you need to connect an audio output from the keyboard to the "Line Input" of your computer. That could be a problem if the computer is a laptop PC as most laptop PCs only have a microphone input and not a "Line input". Full size PCs usua...

Re: Is there Auto Level Control in 1.3x (Beta)

Audacity has no Automatic Level Control while you are recording, but there are tools available that will do a similar job after you have recorded. However, it is important that you do not record too loud - the tools are not able to restore distorted sound that has been recorded too loud. Audacity 1....
