I'm not sure exactly what you mean - the sample rate should not affect the functioning of the Left/Right track sliders.

Have a look at the bottom of the "Transport" menu.
Is "Software Plythrough" selected?
If it is, try deselecting it.

Yep, that's basically the idea (also works for iceberg detection) - but doesn't require that the buzzer is big enough to make a noticeable "clang" on impact.

Set the Project Rate (lower left corner of the main Audacity window) to 44100 before you export.
Export in WAV format.

Is there any requirement for mono/stereo?
