Re: 3.5mm mic's into mixer output to pc?
@ aighead, Have you tried plugging an "el cheapo" dynamic microphone into your little mixer and plugging the little mixer into your computer and recording it? If not, and if you can do so easily, please try it. On the forum we sometimes have a bit of a proneness toward looking for "pr...

Re: audacity sometimes won't start when devices change
The trouble with this kind of thing - they go deep into the system. It's not easy to just add in PulseAudio (and take it out again if it doesn't suit you) unless you really know what you're doing. I had Jack running with ALSA on my (virtual) test machine running really sweetly, but then completely *...

At present I've no idea what's causing it - where's that WAV file? - you're fishing morsegroup , we're biting.

Re: .aup file deleted _data folder intact
Look in the recycle bin real quick. If it's there - restore it and all should be well. If you've emptied the recycle bin or bypassed it, you may still have a (slim and getting slimmer) chance of recovering the lost file. If you are on the internet using the same computer as the lost file, there is a...

Are you sure that was the exact message? Not something about LAME not being recognised?chrisjwhitehouse wrote:the computor recognizes the software but says "cannot open mp3".
Do you know what a "ZIP" file is and how to "Extract" the contents of a Zip file?

Re: audacity sometimes won't start when devices change
Audacity saves the last used sound card settings in the audacity.cfg file. Here's an extract from my current set-up: [AudioIO] RecordingDevice=ALSA: default Host=ALSA PlaybackDevice=ALSA: default RecordChannels=2 This is using ALSA through PulseAudio. PulseAudio is controlling the "default"...

Re: Odd distortion
It's those little spikes that are the problem - that is not normal at all. It isn't caused by "clipping", but looks more like data corruption. It's difficult to tell if the spikes are evenly place - they look to be around every 400 samples or multiples of that - possibly bad RAM buffering ...

Re: sending recording to email or my space
That article covers about everything, but there's a couple of points that I would highlight. 1) The CD burning application MUST be set to make an AUDIO CD (not a "data" CD) 2) You can burn audio CDs with Windows Media Player, but it is horrible to set up and has a frequent habit of messing...

Re: Problems with recording from skype
Unfortunately I don't think that will work. Jack requires exclusive access to the audio device, and so does Skype. As indicated in this topic , "The problem is, Skype isn't jack-aware". I've tried to get Skype working with Jack on a few occasions, but no joy - I'd be extremely interested t...

I wish that this information was more accessible. It is in the Audacity wiki http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Portable_Audacity but yes I take your point. You will no doubt appreciate that documenting Audacity is in itself a huge project (volunteers welcome - see second paragraph here )...
