You've posted in the Audacity 1.2 for Linux part of the forum, but I'm guessing that you're using Audacity 1.3?
If so, go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Interface" and disable "Clean Speech Mode".

It's random. I don't know why, it just is. If you need to sort them into order, sort by date/time.

Just about any modern laptop computer will handle editing with Audacity and burning CDs. I've no experience with Netbook computers but suspect that may may be a bit underpowered for the job, and I don't think they have built in optical drives for burning CDs. If I had to guess I'd say faulty sound card, though I'd like to test it, either in a different PC (preferably with a different OS) or in a different recording program using ASIO drivers (preferable on a different machine).

On debian you need to install libbio2jack0 Also available for Ubuntu - not tried it yet, but installing now - shall have to have a play with this. The trick is to get the software to put Near on the left and Far on the right of a capture recording. The clumsy VM workaround described earlier provide...
