Re: Newbie Mixing Question
I'll select all tracks and reduce the gain by a couple of dB's. Just enough to remove any of the crackling noise. Remember that in Audacity you can always "undo" previous operations, so if you want to check that the mix will not clip, you can use "Mix and Render" at any time, an...

Re: How To Record Streaming Audio In 1.3?
Thank you Magnusbush, but why pay $30 for that software, from a company with no registered address or telephone number and has only been in existence since March 2nd this year, when it can be done in Audacity for free?
BTW, what part of China are you from?

Re: Determining decibel level of sound clip
I simply need an audio file that I can manipulate to several decibel levels to be used for research purposes, ei. 60dB, 80 dB, etc. But I can't seem to find any clips which straight out define the starting decibel level. Decibels (dB) are a relative measure, not an absolute measure. It is a measure...

Re: audacity sometimes won't start when devices change
you can do this by adding the following lines to /etc/pulse/default.pa Already tried that but still no joy - I've got the device, but Jack locks up as soon as I start PulseAudio. My VM has become a seriously hacked up machine  , I think I'll do a fresh install before I try again. You can t...

Re: any plug-in for distortion by too-high gain
always try to record -18 to -24 dB lower than your expected max. The "ideal" amount of headroom depends on several factors. You only ever need >0dB headroom - the important thing is that clipping distortion is avoided. The more headroom that is given, the less dynamic range is available. ...

Re: Volume mishap
In Audacity 1.3, the default Amplify level brings the loudest peak up to 0dB. Without using dynamic compression, that's as loud as it will go without distorting.

Re: audacity sometimes won't start when devices change
I found out that I can select if the input on the xonar is line-in or mic... Great stuff :D it seems that there's a module to send pulseaudio output to jack... That's what I've been trying to get working on my virtual test machine - not the best test bed for this kind of thing - no joy so far. I'll...

Re: any plug-in for distortion by too-high gain
this type of distortion is tought to deal with, I gather. Yes it is. If it is only very slight, then the clipfix.ny plug-in can be very effective (should only be used on short sections to "recover" the occasional clipped peak). By the time the distortion is really noticeable it becomes a ...
