Re: I need help!!!
Apart from the low volume there is also a lot of other "damage" to the recording. There are "bubbly harmonic" sounds that are typical of "MP3 compression" and "Noise Reduction". I can't tell how much of this other "damage" is directly from the iPhone...

Re: Recording in stereo
Windows 7 (and Vista) will often assume that any USB device is a mono microphone. To change that you need to go into the Windows Control Panel and tell Windows that it is a stereo device. The quickest way to access the mixer is to right-click over the speaker icon in the System Tray > Recording Devi...

Re: Determining decibel level of sound clip
You're very welcome. We try to encourage all forum users to treat each other with equal respect regardless of gender. The use of "he" is often used in a generic way as the majority of forum users are male, though it a useful reminder that there are also very many female users. There is an ...

Re: input volume with external soundcard
Hello, I have a question concerning the input volume slider in Audacity. I am using an external usb audio interface (E-MU 0404usb) and would like to record the signal coming from this interface without any modifications whatsoever. I can set the level of my signal with the gain knobs of the preamps...

Re: importing mp3 problems
It sounds like there is an error in the MP3 encoding - not enough to stop it from playing or converting, but enough to upset Audacity 1.3.5
You might want to update Audacity - the current version is 1.3.12.

Re: Making ufo sound in far distance
This is a really interesting effect Ruriko, but one that is difficult to produce in Audacity 1.2.6. Could you upload a sample of your UFO sound somewhere on the Internet (for example "sendspace.com") and post a link to it, then upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12 and I'm sure that someone will be a...

Re: string of sound effects
Unfortunately there is currently no way to automatically append one imported file to the end of another, though this is a frequently requested feature that we hope will be implemented in future versions. For now you need to use the Time Shift tool . The quick way to change from the normal "sele...

Re: Audacity with Creative Fatal1ty HS-1000 Gaming Headset?
the problem is I don't have stereo mix I suspected that would be the case with the USB headset. There's no guarantee that your computer sound card will have the option either, but it may have. So now it depends on whether it's worth the effort to start messing round with the sound system (which cur...

Re: No 'Preferences' in Ver 1.2.6!
Here is the Audacity 1.2.6 manual: http://audacityteam.org/manual-1.2/ You can also download it from here: http://audacityteam.org/help/documentation Note that Audacity has changed some of the layout since Audacity 1.3 was introduced and now has a new manual. For Preferences in Audacity 1.2.6, click...

Re: any plug-in for distortion by too-high gain
why use pink noise for the noise sample? It started as pink noise, but then was severely truncated (clipped) so that it had a waveform like this: tracks000.png It's a valid point that you raise - I picked truncated pink noise because it has visual similarity to the "noise" that we're tryi...
