Re: Stereo mix problems

It may be possible, but it depends on several factors. Must be a conventional microphone - not a USB microphone. Your sound card and drivers must support stereo mix. If you've got those two you're in with a chance. I'm hoping you're on Windows XP because it gets a lot harder in Vista and Windows 7. ...

Re: are they compatable....

It's possible that you could problems if you try to run GoldWave and Audacity at the same time, but other than that you should be OK.
I have a computer with Nero and Audacity and there's no problem there.

Re: Making ufo sound in far distance

The source sound for this one was white noise; 1) Generate white noise (must be 32 bit for this to work) 2) High Pass filter effect - 1000Hz 48dB per octave 3) Repeat the high pass filter another 3 or 4 times 4) Low Pass filter effect - 1000Hz 48dB per octave 5) Repeat the low pass filter another 3 ...

Re: Cleaning up recording

Much of it is environmental - one of the regulars on the forum does his recording in the bedroom with lots of blankets and duvets hanging around to soak up the reverberation of the room. Many "serious" home recordists build a wooden frame with rugs and blankets hanging from it to create an...

Re: 3.5mm mic's into mixer output to pc?

Buying a soldering iron would add about $15 to the cost of the project and you would then have your own soldering iron for any future projects, but if Koz is able and willing to knock one up for you... (I realise that he's not said that he can make this incredibly kind offer, just that he's consider...

Re: any plug-in for distortion by too-high gain

There is a dB view, but it probably does not display in the way that you would expect. The usual reaction when people accidentally switch to the dB view is "what's gone wrong with the track display?" because it is unfamiliar and not immediately obvious how to interpret what it is showing. ...

Re: applying effects.....ps thnx for help on my last post

Unfortunately there are no real-time effects in Audacity, though it is one of the most requested features. In particular there is a "feature request" specifically for "Real Time Eq". I could add your vote for this feature if you would like. The Equalizer has a "Preview"...

Re: Problem with overlapping tracks

I've moved your post to the Audacity 1.3 part of the forum. 1.3.9 has now been replaced with 1.3.12 - it would be worth upgrading as there have been a lot of important bug fixes. To make tracks overlap you need to keep each of the songs on different tracks rather than putting them on the same track....

Re: Audacity 1.2.6 and Exporting as FLAC

There are a few differences but it's certainly no more "difficult", in fact many tasks can be done much more simply. There's a few differences in the layout, such as "Import" and "Export" are now both in the File menu, and changing the export file type is now selected i...

Re: Artificially improving sound quality

Hello again :) Yes there's various things that you can do, but the first thing to ask is why do the songs sound better with WMP? After all, if they are commercial recordings then a lot of studio time and money have gone into producing the "perfect" mix, so why is it that by enabling a few ...
