Re: Enhancing digital piano sound

the interesting thing is, the individual tracks were well within range of distorting. It wasn't till I exported them into an MP3 that the distortion showed. What's that? You're adding sounds together - when you add things together they get bigger - same thing with adding (mixing) sounds. You can mi...

Re: I need cactus sound effect

I don't think that I'd try to purely synthesise the sound. I'd probably start with a recording - you could either go for something "realistic" like chopping a marrow/melon/cucumber with a carving knife (you would need a sensitive microphone, a very quiet room and have the microphone close ...

Re: Does Audacity have a panner?

OK thanks. We can only really offer partial support for the portable version of Audacity 1.2.6 as it is a modified version, but there is an official portable version of Audacity 1.3.12. It doesn't run in "Portable Apps" it's just the same as the normal installed version except that it is a...

Re: What does the "Invert" effect do?

Inverting a waveform does not actually make it sound different. Imagine a vibrating string, like the string of a guitar that has been strummed - It could be vibrating up - down - up - down - up - down... If we "invert" that, it will vibrate down - up - down - up down - up... but it will st...

Re: recording 'jumps'

As in my previous post, USB devices can be prone to this problem. ...for which I am using the correct driver No argument about it being the "correct" driver, but it is worth checking on the manufacturers web site to see if it is the "latest" driver. Drivers are often rewritten so...

Re: What does the "Invert" effect do?

If you zoom in really close on a waveform so that you can see the wiggly line going up and down, then apply the "Invert" effect, you will see that it does exactly what it says on the tin - it turns the sound wave upside down. In this picture the bottom track is a copy of the top track and ...

Re: Stopped recording last night.

This can be caused by Audacity loosing connection to your sound card. Have you tried rebooting? If that doesn't work we'll need to look a bit deeper, but to do so will need a bit more information: What operating system are you using? (Vista? XP? Win 7?) Exactly which version of Audacity? (look in &q...

Re: no line in option on mixer toolbar

The "USB" option will be your USB sound card, unless you have any other USB audio devices connected. Whether it's called "UCA 202 (USB)" or "USB audio codec" or something else depends on how your operating system describes the chip. On my machine (Linux) the UCA-202 is ...

Re: Enhancing digital piano sound

The recording is quite badly distorted. Somewhere along the line something is being overdriven. Try turning down the piano volume when you record.
