Re: ?stereo to mono, keeping the highs from each side?
I could manually go thru the dialog and select the actor's mono parts and highlight them to be on both channels, but that would take forever. Is there an automatic way to merge both channels so whatever the louder channel is (in a given moment) will dominate the output? Like a more flexible audio d...

Re: too high recording volume
I know what a DI box is and a "standard" DI box is unsuitable for connecting to the mic input of a laptop computer. Just telling mariuj "you need a DI box (and cable adapters) to fix the mismatch" is not very helpful as DI boxes usually have balanced XLR outputs, whereas laptops ...

Re: Recording at 24bit appears to be 16 bits padded to 24bit
linear goes from nearly 1 to zero Linear goes from +1.0 to -1.0 The linear scale relates to the numerical value of the samples. the db scale only shows a range of about 24 db As I wrote in an earlier post in this thread; <<< The bottom end of the dB scale can be set by the user "Edit > Prefere...

Re: 1.3.12 Beta language choice in Interface
I've built Audacity 1.3.10 (Dec 01, 2009) using: ./configure --with-libsamplerate --program-suffix=-SVN make sudo make install On first launch, Audacity prompts for language selection. The only option is English. Edit > Preferences > Interface > Language the only available option is "English&qu...

Re: can't open my audacity project file
It does! Even if you limit the number of actions you can do... that would make projects incredible large... and they're already quite large as they are now... Absolutely true, and for that reason I think that if we had this option the default would have to be "OFF" (don't save Undo histor...

Re: Sample rate of 44100 not available for 1.3.12 and Lame3.
Can you see what the problem might be from the aditional information I've supplied here. Yes - "16 bit" does not mean the same as "16kbps" (16kb/s). When you Export, click on the "Options" button on the Export dialogue screen and set the options to "Constant: 128&...

Have you got Windows to display the full file name including the "extension" (the letters after the dot at the end of the file name?)

Re: Deep subs
There's a sawtooth setting for Generate > Tone. You might be able to force that to work. It's in Audacity 1.3.12. Koz To make the sound less "flat" you could use a number of tones each of them tuned to a slightly different frequency, then set at different volume levels and mixed together.

Re: Weak Recording Volume
Suspect maybe an uncompatibility or copyright issue. Very unlikely. If your computer has a "Stereo Mix" option then with the appropriate settings it should work. If the computer/sound card does not support Stereo Mix, then it will not work at all. There's no half way in-between. just extr...

Re: too high recording volume
you need a DI box (and cable adapters) to fix the mismatch If I Google for "DI box" I don't see anything that will work. What sort of DI box are you suggesting that mariuj could use? @ mariuj, Many laptops do not have a suitable input for connecting to a tape. If the connector on the lapt...
