Re: How to make sound muffled?
Make a copy of the track (select the track, then Ctrl+D) Apply the "low-pass filter" (Effect menu) Try the default settings in the low-pass filter first. To make it more muffled, increase the "Rolloff" setting or lower the "Cutoff frequency" (leave the filter quality at...

Re: Boys help a girl? Can't find how to convert 88200 to 441
How do I mix my 88200 voice with my 44100 music. In Audacity 1.3.12 you can just Import (from File menu) your tracks into Audacity. Audacity will support multiple sample rates in the same project. When you get round to Exporting (from File menu) your finished project (to create a normal audio file ...

Re: Cannot start downloading
You have to have a valid recording input enabled in the Windows Control Panel. See here for how to check/set that: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer_Toolbar_Issues#Using_the_Control_Panel If you still have problems you will need to say what operating system you are using, what settings you hav...

Re: stereo recording not recording true stereo tacks
Which version of Windows are you using?
Vista and Win 7 have a setting in the Control Panel to set recording to 1 channel (mono) or 2 channels (stereo).
If you are using Vista or Win 7 you should upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12. http://audacityteam.org/download/

The problem is this line:
If you change that to:
then it should work.

Re: Data files switch from *.au to *.auf and go silent
If you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12 there is an option in the "File" menu for "Check Dependencies". This will tell you if there is any data used by the project that has not been copied into the _data folder and gives you the option to copy external data (dependencies) into the _dat...

Re: MP3's & WAV's massively clipped in Audacity
It looks like two separate (probably unrelated) problems. The sound level problem may well be a simple sound system setting, but the one I'm more concerned about is the track not closing - that is definitely not normal. I see that you "sterilised the Preferences", but it's possible that yo...

Re: too high recording volume
any reason why this worked fine on the old laptop but not the new one? difference in soundcard. Yes, different sound card, but also different "drivers" (the software that the operating system uses to communicate with the hardware). It may be possible to coax Windows to produce acceptable ...

Re: Chains: include Apple effects in commands?
Is there a way to include an "Apple: xyz" effect in a chain? Short answer - No. The "chains" feature only currently works with a limited subset of the Audacity functions - if it's not listed it's not available, Note: the standard effect "Compressor" is available in the...
