Re: Non-destructive editing
Audacity doesn't do non-destructive editing Correct. Audacity is more of a multi-track sample editor - almost all operations actually change the audio data. However, if you are working on an existing audio file, then the 'file' is not changed at all. All changes to the audio data are made to Audaci...

Re: Compressing/Mixing to be more studio-like
It's all about using the right tools for the job. Since you're concerned about freedom I presume that you are using Linux. Audacity is a great tool for editing and for quick and efficient mixing, but it's not really a mastering tool. Have a look at "Ardour 2" and "Jamin" http://j...

Re: Recording from multiple USB mics
In the light of WC's post I'll clarify my previous post: ASIO will not be included in Audacity (see here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Features_We_Can%27t_Implement ) As far as I'm aware, it's not a matter of financial cost, (ASIO SDK is available free of charge) but just that there ...

Re: Have I blown my soundcard????
It's possible that you have a hardware fault, but I think that it's more likely that you have accidentally muted something. How do you normally control the sounds on your computer? Is there a loudspeaker icon in the bottom right corner (the Taskbar Notification area)? If you have a loudspeaker icon,...

Re: Need to sync 2 sources that run at different speeds
Some high end/professional equipment have a " word clock " input/output that allows them to be synchronised with other devices. It doesn't look like either of your devices have that feature so the closest that you will be able to achieve is to manually cut little bits out of one or other r...

Re: Recording from multiple USB mics
I was under the impression that ASIO drivers allowed audacity to access multiple devices. Am I mistaken? I'm not sure - I've never tried, but I would suspect that even with ASIO you will still only be able to access one USB microphone - for a definitive answer we need someone who has actually tried...
