Re: Turn Low Volume into Silence
I will need to find one that has something like a "grace period" before fading out (or just dropping off). You can adjust how rapidly it drops off by adjusting the Attack/Decay setting. For a fast drop off, reduce the number (minimum is 10 milliseconds = 1/100th of a second). For a more g...

Re: Any good books on editing with Audacity?
There's loads of on-line documentation. See the "Tips, Tutorials and Documentation" links at top of page, or any of the links below this post.
Most of the current documentation is for Audacity 1.3.x which is much improved from the old 1.2 version.

Re: Mp3 Encoder
Audacity must be in STOP mode (not play, record or pause) and you must have some audio selected.
To change the language in Audacity 1.2.6, press Ctrl+P, then select the 6th tab. Click on the drop down menu and select English. You may need to restart Audacity for the change to take effect.

Re: Zero-Point editing and weird clicking sound
You mean "MODPlug Tracker"?
The looping editor in MODPlug Tracker has automatic snapping to zero crossing points.
To snap a selection to zero crossing points in Audacity 1.3.12 press the "Z" key.

Re: More versatile Nyquist fade/amplify effect
Unfortunately, none of them I've dealt with are that technically inclined, I guessed that :D I presume they haven't contacted you about this (I took the liberty of giving them your address). That's fine, but no I've not heard from anyone except you, Paul Beach (audacity-nyquist list) and a PM from ...

Re: Distortion when recording from USB turntable
You turned down the wrong thing. If you turn down the recording volume in the Windows Control Panel it must make the recording level lower.

Re: Perfect on Windows XP but too loud on Windows 7
You need to put the kettle on again :) There are a lot of links on that page that all lead to important information regarding setting up Windows 7 (and Vista, which is almost as big a nightmare). I don't use Windows 7, but apparently it has a habit of setting the recording level really high. You nee...

Re: Exporting to variable bit rate
With JPG's, a lossless image format, You mean "with JPGs, a lossy image format" That's a good analogy. You don't loose any quality in a JPG just from looking at it (otherwise the Internet would be very blurred by now), but if you decompress, then recompress a JPG you will loose a bit more...

Use Audacity 1.3.12 and read this (slowly and carefully - you may need to put the kettle on and make a drink before you start): http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Windows_7_OS
