That's called "Vocal Isolation".
See here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... s_Plug-ins
(don't expect it to work very well - isolating vocals from a mixed vocal+instrument track is like trying to un-cook a cake).

Re: More versatile Nyquist fade/amplify effect
I think we'll have to at least try to address this in the help somehow. Because of the very tight constraints on screen size (so as to fit on 800 x 600 display on all platforms), I'm going to keep the built in help screens to a minimal "Quick Start". Could I put a page on the Audacity wik...

Re: More versatile Nyquist fade/amplify effect
Amplifying to 1.0 is fine in this case, but amplifying to 1.0 before the fade won't help a lot of the other cases. That is exactly the pointy that I've been trying to make - how to sensibly achieve a target level is different from one audio track to another. For the three screenshot samples that I'...

I read somewhere that someone solved the problem with a registry tweak, but it was with XP... nothing for Windows 7 or even Vista... The relevant documentation is here: http://w...

Re: Exporting tracks
I can't help you with the GarageBand side of this, but for Audacity, you can pad the beginning of tracks with silence by selecting ONE track, then use "Quick Mix" from the Project menu. Repeat for each track. The tracks will now line up in exactly the right place in other programs.
