Re: Putting in breaks
If you only want to split into 2 parts, the easiest way is to zoom out so that you can see the entire waveform, then select the first half by clicking and dragging your mouse from the middle of the track to the beginning. You can then use "Export Selected" to export that half. To export th...

Re: Convert stereo to mono
If your default "Quality" setting is 32 bit, then files will be converted to 32 bit on import, regardless of what the bit depth of the file is. To make a smaller file you need to set the MP3 format to a smaller "kbps" setting. To do that in Audacity 1.2.6 you need to go into Pref...

Re: Minimum length mod for Silence Marker and Sound Finder
I've added "Minimum distance between labels [seconds]" to "SilenceFinder.ny" I've changed the name to "Silence Finder ML..." to make it easy to test without overwriting the standard Silence Finder. If anyone would like to test it, download, extract into your Audacity pl...

Re: Recording but No Playback Sound
It could be that the recording level is just really low and you can't hear it.
Try this and let us know what happens:
1) Select the track (double click on it)
2) Select "Amplify" from the effects menu and apply with the default settings.
3) Play.

Re: Remove effects from track?
For future reference; When adding effects such as reverb, a good technique is to make a duplicate copy of the track (select the track then Ctrl+D). Then apply reverb to the duplicate track. You can then adjust the balance of dry (no effect track) to wet (effect track) by using the volume sliders on ...

Re: scale on "waveform" y axis
My problem is how to express in my data tables what the scale on the y axis actually means - it goes from -1 to 0 to +1. The scale on the vertical axis is the numerical value of the samples. (linear scale) If you click on the name of the track and select "Waveform dB" the vertical scale w...

If you can't get it going with Audacity, have a go with Reaper http://www.reaper.fm/

Re: Saving File without Encoding
You could use MP3Split (free) to split the files. http://mp3splt.sourceforge.net/mp3splt_page/home.php
and use ReplayGain to adjust the playback level: http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php ... Replaygain

Audacity 1.2.x
"Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O"
Audacity 1.3.x
"Edit menu > Preferences > Devices"
Check that you have the correct device selected for both the recording device and the playback device.

Re: New Vinyl Getting Skips
Could you record the record, then Select the bit that is skipping (only need about 20 seconds) then from the file menu choose "Export Selection". If the exported file is less than 1MB (or perhaps 2 MB) you will be able to upload it directly to the forum using the "Upload Attachment&qu...
