Re: Replacing UNequal length silences with equal length sile

You can shorten silences to the same length by using "Sound Finder" in Audacity 1.3.12 . It's in the "Analyze" menu. This will place labels on a label track that mark each sound that is separated from other sounds by silence. You can set the labels so that they include a set amou...

Re: Audacity as passthrough

If all you want is to add effects live, all you need is a VST host program (with Virtual Audio Cable)
Here's a free one: http://www.hermannseib.com/english/vsthost.htm
or another: http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/
or another: http://www.wavosaur.com/

Re: Minimum length mod for Silence Marker and Sound Finder

Re: Audacity as passthrough

Why do you need to use Audacity in this set up. Is it not possible to achieve the same result just with Virtual Audio Cable?

Re: Recording Birds

For recording very low sound levels you need a pre-amp that has a "self noise" level that is as low as possible. Low noise is probably even more important than high gain (high amplification). The choice of microphone should also be one that is as "sensitive" and "low noise&q...

Re: "Underwater" sound?

Microphone inputs on laptops frequently have "Noise Suppression", "Echo Cancellation" and other such effects. You need to find all of these effects (which are usually hidden in the sound cards control panel and can be hard to find) and turn them off.

Re: Recording but No Playback Sound

Since the recording volume is set so low, you would do best to increase it. To do that, double click on the loudspeaker icon near to the Time/Date on your desktop, go to the "Recording" section, and increase the recording level. Note that when you are recording from "Stereo Mix",...
