Re: Audacity Error Opening Sound Device
I can't say with any degree of certainty, but if the diagnostics are throwing up a hardware error then that could very well be the cause of your problems. Get back to us after they have fixed it - hopefully you'll be telling us that everything is fine

Re: Problem with overdub...
that is the one with the "issue" so that should suffice Yes indeed it does suffice. You have a bad case of "drop-outs" (skips). I don't know why you are getting it as bad as that with only two tracks. I would have expected that you would be able to run at least a dozen tracks be...

Re: Compressing/Mixing to be more studio-like
I think it would be a good idea to have a sticky topic on the forum (as suggested by Gale in this post http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=30935&p=86459#p86276 ) as this would allow others to add suggestions. I realise there is a risk of it becoming a "spam magnet", ...

Re: Nyquist Cookie Monster
Lol. Me want cookie too
A fine example of obfuscated code.
The book looks good also - only had a quick flick through so far but some interesting examples. Shame it doesn't cover *warp* (which I find one of the most confusing aspects of Nyquist), but I realise that's specific to Nyquist.

The link gives 404 error (page not found).
Audacity does not record MIDI. Audacity only records audio. To record MIDI you need a "sequencer" program.

Re: monitor my recording
You need to switch off "Software Playthrough" (Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O) If switching of software playthrough means that you can't monitor the recording at all, you will need to give details of what you are recording from, how it is connected to your computer, and what your head...

Re: Saving Audacity Data Files
What are the pros and cons of saving the data files from recording my old vinyl records? Pros: If you have the original project (.AUP file and data) AND there are no dependencies : you can go back to the project and labels, multiple tracks, and the original (32 bit?) quality is available for you to...

Re: Native Instruments
A couple of ideas;
You may be recording the sound too loud and getting distortion.
Your computer may not be fast enough to be able to play the NI instruments and record in Audacity simultaneously.
