Re: Name change
beta is a valid warning flag why remove that if it really is a beta version ? not fair to users to fool them that way Why not? Microsoft does that all the time :D but joking apart, on most modern computers, Audacity 1.3.12 is more stable than Audacity 1.2.6 and on many Mac computers, 1.2.6 will not...

Re: Sliding Pitch and Time Crash
Do you see what jorhay1 and I found, that if you copy that region to a new track or project and apply the same parameters to that new track, there is less likelihood of a crash or excessive processing time? Yes, that does seem to help. Is it a crash (Audacity disappears) or a freeze for you? Using ...

Re: Nyquist Transformation Environment
steve: Question about *warp*: If you have (osc 60) in a Generate plug-in the *warp* time-stretch value is NOT bound to the length of the Audacity selection, but in a Process plug-in it IS bound to the length of the Audacity selection. Is that right? edgar: No, the *warp* time-stretch value is ALWAY...

Re: Sliding Pitch and Time Crash
I've been using the sliding pitch/time effect today on Linux (Ubuntu 9.04, Audacity 1.3.12) and Audacity has been crashing regularly. It seems to crash mostly when using extreme settings on relatively short sections of audio. In most cases I was processing selections of between 2 seconds and 0.5 sec...

Re: whistling sound
If it's a laptop, try running if from the batteries. If you have a microphone plugged into the microphone socket, check (very thoroughly) in the sound card control panel and see if there's a control for "noise cancellation", "noise reduction", "echo cancellation" or sim...

Re: Crash and won't save
Try upgrading to Audacity 1.3.12. On many modern machines it is a lot more stable than the old version.

Re: Nyquist Transformation Environment
Counter-question: do you know the Vinal Scratch Tutorial? This would be fun to write an Audacity plugin out of it! Or is there already one from David Sky? I've not seen it as a plug-in, but a direct implementation is probably not that interesting from the standpoint of *warp* related functions. Mos...

Re: Time code/length property problem
You're probably not doing anything wrong. I found that WMP does this with a lot of files (not only files from Audacity) and I've not been able to figure out why. I find that usually the length appears after the file has been played all the way through, but not always. It annoyances such as this (and...

Re: starting Audacity 1.3 beta
The input selector in Audacity is only available if the sound card agrees to play nicely, but some don't :( The (almost) fail-safe method for selecting the input source is to use the sound-cards control panel/mixer application. There is usually a loudspeaker icon near the time/date that you can doub...

Re: Mono v. Stereo
It's possible that the input socket on the computer is only mono (more likely on a laptop than a desktop computer, but not definite either way). Since you have posted in this part of the forum I'm assuming that you are using Audacity 1.2.6 on Windows XP, Go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I...
