Re: converting to mp3

There are step by step instructions here: http://audacityteam.org/help/faq?s=install&item=lame-mp3 If you get stuck, please try and describe exactly what happens - the details are particularly important for this, so, for example, rather than saying "when I click on convert to mp3" say ...

Re: Compressing/Mixing to be more studio-like

they need to be lowered so the track can be amplified without the peaks clipping The way that the hard limiter works is that it clips the peaks, though it can be set to do so more gently than hacking off the peaks flat. The harmonic distortion is of an identical kind to clipping the peaks, but not ...

Re: Compressing/Mixing to be more studio-like

Hard limiting is basically the same effect as distortion that is caused by recording too loud, though it can be made less harsh than digital clipping by increasing the "residual" level. Hard limiting distorts the peaks by squashing the tops of the waveforms, thus creating significant amoun...

Re: Text Envelope 0.8 beta

If you are going to add parentheses as a bonus, why not add semi-colon as well? I've just added the following options: ()[]{};:, I also completely misread it to mean that - or + modifiers only worked with the % choice. Ah - there could be a reason for that :P. When I first added the '-' modifier, i...

Re: Compressing, Amplifying, and Equalizing Some Older Recor

Use Audacity 1.3.12 Set the track format to 32 bit (click on the track name and select "set sample format" from the drop down menu, then "32 bit") Try running Chris's compressor on it's own, just to get an idea what difference it makes. Compression ratio settings between about 0....

Re: which effect to compress spikes, not surrounding audio?

Is there any help file or description that can help me understand what "Wet level" and "residual level" actually mean/do? Not as far as I know. "Wet/Dry" is fairly standard terminology with effects. "Dry" means the original, unprocessed sound. "Wet"...

Re: Text Envelope 0.8 beta

Maybe it's an unnecessary complication, and there are already a lot of options? I think parentheses make it a lot easier to read the pairs of values, but I quite agree about RSI :) As providing choice of which characters are used as delimiters does not require the user to specify/select the option,...

Re: Vocal, and Saving

I did the project while using the Beta, but it says it was saved using 1.2. I've no idea how that could happen. If the file was saved in Audacity 1.2.6 and you try to open it in Audacity 1.3.x, you will get a warning message, (saying that saving it in 1.3 will prevent it from being opened in 1.2), ...

NOOOoooo not the leveller :o
(I prefer to call that the "crusher" )

The "hard limiter" is included in the optional "set of over 90 LADSPA plug-ins" that you can download here: http://audacityteam.org/download/plugins
