I think that you must be using an old version of Audacity. (Audacity 1.2.6 is still available on the Audacity web site, but it's really old)
Upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12

Re: Help getting that effected "cool radio guy voice".
It's not the type of "sound" that I'm particularly familiar with (radio producers don't tend to go for that type of sound here in the UK) but the main features that I notice: The main effects on that sample are: Heavy dynamic compression, Strong boost of high frequencies, 15 millisecond de...

For 1 and 2, you could export from Audacity as an MP3

For item 3, what audio format does Express Scribe support?

Resonant filter effect
I originally made this plug-in for a specific job, but have now adapted it to be a more general resonant filter effect. It is designed with sound synthesis in mind, particularly as a tool in producing "analogue" style synthesizer sounds, though other uses may be found. It could be adapted ...

Re: Denoising Audio track from VHS capture
Unfortunately the noise removal effect in Audacity is not so brilliant. For Linux there is "Gnome Wave Cleaner" which is free and has a very high quality noise removal effect. For Windows, you can still get the old "CoolEdit 2000" 30 day demo version for free - it's partially cri...

Re: DBX 120x for your voice
The frequencies are set to cover the bottom octave (below fifty something Hz), so the range from lowest synthesized tone to highest needs to be within a doubling of frequency. Using exact sub-harmonics would produce a 'bumpy' output with certain notes from the input producing much higher output (if ...

Re: strange noise
Usually pre-amp SNR is measured with the input short circuit. This is because high gain amplifiers are often noisier when the input is open circuit, but microphones and other input devices usually have pretty low impedance (low resistance to AC), so short circuit is a better approximation than open ...

Re: Ubuntu 9.1 no recording
It may turn out to be fairly general, but as yet I don't know for sure. When I eventually upgrade to Ubuntu 10.x I'll probably have a better idea, so thanks for the suggestion and I'll keep it in mind.

Re: Problems recording
Good. On the "Recording" Tab, when you have selected "show disabled" and "show disconnected" devices, do you see any devices that mention "USB"?generalgeorge wrote:got as far as show disabled/dsconnected devices
If there's a USB option, is it bold or greyed?

Re: Ethernet Device setting for recording??
Ethernet and networking in general don't do live audio (or video) because of the oddball delays. "In general" yes, but there's some interesting new devices now hitting the professional market (with professional level price tags. The Roland version is at the cheap end of the scale at a mer...
