Re: Unable to set parameters for chained ExportMp3 command
When using MP3 export with Chains, the settings that were used last will be used. So if you want to export a load of files at say the "Preset Extreme" setting, Export a short dummy file at that setting before running the chain. This is a bit of a pain if you regularly change your MP3 setti...

Re: Input level volume, how does it work?
I think the exact operation may depend on your sound card and operating system, but common to all systems it does not do anything magical - it just adjusts a sound card record level. An extract from the Audacity wiki: It is often assumed that Audacity controls the sources displayed in the input sele...

Re: Amplify vs Normalize parameters
thus the stereo balance can be impaired)>>> or corrected. Most modern commercial recordings have been mastered with the maximum peak level close to or at 0dB. If the transfer of a tape or record into digital has come through with one channel peaking higher than the other, it may be due to an uninte...

Re: Parameters for High Pass Filter and Noise Remover?
I don't do a lot of vinyl copying, so hopefully others will provide more comprehensive responses, but the general rule with any kind of audio restoration is to keep the processing as gentle as possible. For example, with rumble filtering I'd try running the high pass filter at 10 Hz 6dB per octave -...

Re: Amplify vs Normalize parameters
I usually use Normalize as it retains my preferred setting (Amplify always defaults to 0dB in Audacity 1.3.12 but I usually prefer to keep a bit of headroom before exporting, so generally Normalize to around -0.1 dB). The case where Amplify should be used rather than Normalize is if the peak levels ...

Re: Horrible noise coming from my speakers
What sort of noise is it? A sort of squealing howl? A "static" noise like a mis-tuned radio? or something else?

@whomper - here's another one for your list of really useful (free) applications: xplorer2 lite http://www.zabkat.com/x2lite.htm The pro (non-free) version is even better, but the free "lite" version is highly functional and useful for managing files. (one of my "must have" appli...

Re: copy and paste track troubles
That's interesting - on looking again more closely I don't think it's the bug that I thought it was. @Gale - it's difficult to see without being able to see the time scale, but it looks like some of the tracks are being stretched rather than truncated? @sagetyrtle - were the original tracks containi...
